ECOTERRA: Great purchase for kayaking
By Moose
I bought this Boombox to use for an annual weekend kayak trip down the Wisconsin River and couldn’t be happier with the performance. It’s completely waterproof (and sandproof!). We had about two hours of steady rain this year and I had it strapped to the top of my kayak the entire time – no problem. We camped on a sandbar and had it sitting in the sand all night without issue. I also tested it by attaching and floating it alongside my kayak the following day, and it was as-advertised. It’s small enough to be strapped or bungie-corded to the top of a kayak without taking up a lot of space and with acess to the controls, and loud enough for fellow kayakers to enjoy.
It sounds great for a smaller boombox and has a good volume range, but there is some distortion at the highest volume settings. Bass is adequate. My only knock would be that the exterior buttons to track forward or back didn’t work with an iPod, iPhone or Droid, but the volume did. This wasn’t a big hassle since you can either play a really long playlist or set your device to shuffle while on the water, and once you’re out of the water you can keep the panel open to access your device.
ECOTERRA: Worth Upgrading!
By Tech Mom
I bought the Eco Terra for my son to replace the smaller eco extreme that we all used last year for camping. He uses the ECO terra very weekend at the beach and the kids take it the the neighborhood pool in the evenings. My biggest surprise is that, the sound is almost twice as loud as the Extreme. This is great for when we have groups hanging around our fires at the beach parties. The batteries last a long time.
The ECO Terra is easy to use and basically works just like the extreme. I like being about to look thru the window and see what song is playing. The added buttons on the outside work perfectly with my iphone. You can skip thru the play lists without having to open the compartment and get my phone wet with my hands. We have never used the ac power cord or the line in jack. There is really no need.
One caution: If its a hot day, inside the compartment gets rather warm. We were having a heat wave two weeks ago. It was probably over 100 degrees outside and decided to escape to the beach. After about 2 hours of use the music stopped playing. I noticed my iphone had a temperature warning. We just removed the iphone and put in my brother’s Galaxy. iphones seem to have issues with hot weather. Now that Steve Jobs is gone, maybe the engineers will start making a better iphone. For now I have programmed up all my tunes on an old ipod and use that all the time without a problem.
In summary, the Terra sounds better and louder than the smaller extreme. The clear window and external buttons are added bonus that makes it worth getting.
My brother is going rafting next month. Looking forward to seeing how it floats.
ECOTERRA: It gets the job done…

I purchased both the Eco Extreme and the Eco Terra, as I wasn’t sure which would be the better fit. Plus I wanted to see how loud both of these things were. Seems like the only reviews I could find in video format were of people just throwing them in water.
The Eco Terra is significantly louder than the Eco Extreme. Plus it does have some other perks that certainly make it worth the extra money. The Terra is the perfect size for toting around anywhere. Not heavy at all, and it has the nice shoulder strap and (4) attachment points (two on front, and two on back). It is a sturdy piece of equipment. The speakers sound better on the Terra also, most likely because it has a larger speaker housing that doesn’t share space with your MP3 and personal items, like the Extreme does. I compared them side by side on batteries and the Terra dwarfed the Extreme in volume and sound quality. I LOVE that the Terra has buttons for controlling the iPhone. If you are going to use it with an MP3 player, just set up a playlist. I usually just use Pandora on my phone and I can skip, pause/play, as much as I want. I do wish this had a remote, though. The speakers are nice and loud and filled our entire community pool with music. I did not experience any static/distortion at any volume.
I kept the iphone at one click below full volume and had the Terra all the way up. The center compartment is well sealed and held my phone nice and snug. The carrying handle is also a nice touch.
The Eco Extreme would be good for when you need something small to stuff in a bag, but I was looking for something for the pool, beach, and lake that I wouldn’t have to worry about getting wet, and I wanted to be able to hear it from a distance. The Extreme had a hard time standing up straight. There really isn’t a good flat area on the device to keep it upright with the speaker facing you. However, the Terra gets the job done very well. Keep in mind, these are waterproof speakers, so you can’t compare the sound quality to those of regular boom boxes. This product was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
I use the Terra at home in my garage using the A/C power adapter when I’m not out and about with it. When at home, I use the Aux port on the back with a nice long cable, so I can keep my phone or ipod on the workbench and just control it like normal. That is a nice option to have.
ECOEXTREME: LOVE IT!!!

I wasn’t expecting much sound from one little speaker, but I’m impressed. It’s no Bose of course, but it will be perfect out on my kayak! I’ll take great comfort knowing my Zune is so well protected.
After using it several times out on the water, I still give it 5 stars. When the batteries get low, just put fresh batteries in and it sounds good again. I use rechargeable to save money and better performance. I can’t tell you how many have stopped me on the river asking how I have tunes on my kayak!

I received it on June 8, 2011 and today is June 28, 2011. Battery life is Unbelievable, 100% water proof and the sound is Great! The reviews that said water seeped in or that is was not completely waterproof – they got a defected one. I love that it floats but it’s Not meant to float while you are listening to it because the sound gets really muffled (perfect for On a raft or floatie). When it does get Really wet (like you drop it in the water), just blow the water off the speaker and it’s back to perfect sound. The sound quality is really freaking great for how little it is. I listen to it Every day, in the shower, while I’m getting ready, in the kitchen while I’m cooking, working in the yard, it’s the best. I used it all weekend when I went camping on June 09th and get this – I have Not changed the batteries yet, they are still going strong! The case is also big enough to fit back up batteries in it which is really nice but so far not needed.
It is not small enough for running or walking but prefect for clipping to your kayak or backpack for a hike and really great for clipping to the beach bag. I have recommended it to everyone I know and everyone who has seen it in person went out and bought their own or tried to steal mine. I might buy another one just to keep in the shower so everyone can use it because like I said, I use it every day and take it everywhere with me. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!! FYI – Make sure your iPod or whatever it is does Not have the sound All the way up, turn the volume a little down on your device and the speaker is Much more clear! Oh and I have the Green speaker box if it matters.
ECOEXTREME: Exactly What I Was Looking For!

For years I have tried different speakers to play my Zune (yes Zune) while showering. Until this product I tried half a dozen or so speakers that I would hook the player up to and then have to play as loud as possible to hear over the shower. Of course then I would turn the shower off and have blaring music until I could dry off enough to turn it down. The Eco Extreme Waterproof Case with Built-In Speaker solves this problem, and more. The case easily holds any type of MP3 player, or phone, or whatever you have your music on (and room for keys or ID..Eat). Just plug in the adapter to your headphone/output jack and you are ready to go.
After a month’s use, I can assure you that this keeps everything inside of it watertight. So it can easily be hung from a shower knob or just about anywhere with the included clip. The sound is very good so don’t be put off by its single speaker. Also the battery life seems to be great. I haven’t had to change them yet so the 30 hours promised in the instructions is easily correct.
I waited a long time before buying this because I didn’t want to spend $35-40 on yet another set of speakers and then not use them. I wish I hadn’t waited so long. I’m sure once summer gets here I will be putting this to some outdoor tests but I have no doubt it will hold up.
I waited over a month to write this review because I wanted to be sure it held up to my expectations. Not only did it do that, it surpassed them. Highly recommended.
